Solution

HomeNests as a community based and non-profitable organisation offers a short-term and long-term solutions to the challenges facing Local Authorities.  We offer to review the stocks, carry out all necessary works before to improve conditions to a high market standards. We would work closely with Local Housing Authorities to identify and place people in need of temporary accommodation, which will offer long-term security to the Council tenants as well as saving the Council money.

HOMELESSNESS

Local Authorities continue to overspend their annual budgets by putting people into temporary accommodation ( i.e mostly in hotels ) as the demand increases on daily basis. The Local Authorities do not have a choice but are under statutory obligation to assess every application made by a service user. Yet there are so many properties remained long-term empty and many more people at risk of homelessness .

The Story of HomeNest

Aren't we all in need of a nest that we call home, surely majority of us know the answer. Yet, Local Authorities are struggling to cope with demands of people at the risk of homelessness.

Under section 184 of the Housing Act 1996 (HA 1996),  Local Housing Authorities (LHA) have a duty to make inquiries into a person’s circumstances in order to determine whether they are eligible for assistance and, if so, to determine what homelessness duty (if any) they are owed by the LHA. That duty only arises where the person concerned is either homeless or threatened with homelessness, as defined by s.175 of the HA 1996.

Recently, the LHA are struggling to meet their statutory obligations and the consequences can be financially and morally damaging if that happens. We may offer our services to assist LHA meet their statutory obligations by working collaboratively with the Councils and private landlords across England and Wales on buildings that have been either short-term or long-term empty.
